Frequently Asked Questions

Some of our most commonly asked questions:

What is the capacity of your venue?

The Filter Building holds a maximum of 200 guests. Only 165-175 guests can be seated with a dance floor.

How much are extra rental hours?

The standard rental includes 8 hours of venue time. Additional hours are $100 each.

Does the Filter Building provide linens, tableware or audio equipment?

The Filter Building does not provide linens, tableware or any audio equipment. Those items must be rented from an external vendor.

What furniture is included?

The Filter Building’s furniture package includes: (20) 60" round dinner tables, (8) 36" high top tables, (6) 6' long rectangular tables, and (200) white garden chairs. Additional furniture may be rented from an external vendor.

Can the Filter Building arrange the furniture according to my specific floorplan?

We pop up the rented tables and chairs and set them in the main hall for your caterer to place as per your floor plan.

Can I have an on-site rehearsal ahead of my wedding?

We will most likely be booked the day or evening ahead of your event, so we do not offer rehearsal periods. We do, however, offer clients one, two-hour "planning meeting" at the venue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, availability allowing. We recommend using this time to coordinate with vendors to finalize your event details. You may opt to use this period to host a rehearsal instead. This meeting must be scheduled with the venue manager and is subject to availability.

Do I need to update the venue manager about my event details on an ongoing basis?

We do not need to know any details of your event until your event date is approximately 45 days away. We will reach out to you for specific information at that time.

Can I cater my own event with potluck-style dining?

No, catering services must be contracted through either a recommended caterer or an approved external catering company. Clients may not cater their own events.

Can I bring in my own beer, wine and liquor?

Yes, clients may purchase your own liquor, but a TABC bartender must serve it and be employed under the contracted caterer.

Can I hang lights from the overhead beams?

Our smoke detector system will not allow anything to be hung above the metal trusses or on the ceilings inside our venue. Please understand that an alarm will go off if any vendor or guest tries to hang anything above 8 feet.

Can I use food trucks as my caterer?

Food trucks are considered an outside caterer so a $300 fee and Certificate of Liability will be required. If the food truck(s) are the main caterer, then you must hire an outside staffing company to have TABC-certified bartenders serve any alcohol. If the food trucks will be cooking on site, the parking lot (where they can setup) must be covered in tarps to protect the concrete from any stains. A maximum of two food trucks are allowed with the venue manager's approval.

Can I bring in a grill to cook outside?

Unfortunately, grills are not allowed due to the capacity for damage from the ashes, grease and open flame.

Can I hire my own security?

Clients may not hire their own security. The Filter Building has a trained Dallas Police Officer who is knowledgeable on the details of our building, AC/heating systems and our usage policies. He is required to be in attendance from the time clients begin serving alcohol until the time the event has concluded, cleanup is finished, and the doors are set to be locked. Four hours of security are included in the standard rental. Additional hours are $50 each.

Can we release biodegradable paper lanterns over the lake?

Paper lanterns pose a fire hazard to the residential communities surrounding White Rock Lake, so unfortunately they are not allowed.
